Support Youth Innovation Center, a project in Rukungiri District of southwestern Uganda. “In Uganda, the youth account for the largest share of Uganda’s population, with 77% of the citizens aged below 25 years of age, with a vast majority of them unemployed. Both global and national reports show that the main cause of unemployment and underemployment among the youth is the chronic lack of hands on and innovative skills to creatively and innovatively utilize the resources around them to create practical solutions for their most pressing unemployment challenge. Therefore, our Youth skilling Program prioritizes skills that drive co-creation of innovative and appropriate low cost entrepreneurial solutions to solve the unemployment and poverty challenges common among young people in Uganda. … The youth acquire self-employment skills through guided entrepreneurship and small business management trainings, hands on innovative ICT, Film and ART, Fashion, design and multimedia trainings, metal work, woodwork and joinery, cookery and bakery practical training sessions.”
